Lo and Behold I’m Sober

I’m 55 years old and I entered tx on Feb. 12, 2011.  I had drank and used for 37 years at that point. Alcohol and drugs had stopped working for me. The disease had progressed to the turning point and I was desperate. I entered tx with an open mind and an open heart. As a result, I had a spiritual awakening not long after I got there. My higher power chose to remove the obsession; also to remove all the rage in my heart and fill it with love. I went to all the classes and meetings and I really learned a lot about substance abuse and relapse. I did everything they told me and I got better.

When I got out of tx, I attended AA regularly and I started to make friends; I had NO friends when I was out there. You can’t count drug dealers as friends. I developed a support system and I got a sponsor to work the steps. I experienced a lot of depression and anxiety my first year, but I knew that if I didn’t drink or use, it would get better. I knew I just needed to go through it. Lo and behold, it got better!

I’ve been sober for 6 years now and my life is amazing! I went back to school last year to be a substance abuse counselor because I want to help the way I was helped at The Watershed.
